Some Indian regiments had a small number of riflemen attached. Using the Brunswick rifles these soldiers were trained in light infantry tactics and sniping. Just add these chaps to your standard muskets armed line units to act as skirmishers. 
 
They would have served on both sides depending on the loyalty of the parent unit.
