Warhammer English Civil War Game (The Arena, May 2007)The armies of Parliament and the Covenant vs. the forces of the King, 1644. Each army contained 4000-4500 points of troops. The Parliamentary forces are Perry Miniatures with a General and frame guns from Foundry (early Perry figures). The Royalist army includes Renegade, Foundry, and even a few Assault Group (30 Years War) figures. Buildings from Miniature Building Authority, Fields and Orchards from Barb's Bunker, Hedges from Pastimes on the Square. The battle lasted 6 hours and ended in a glorious victory for Parliament. Most of the fighting occurred on Parliament's right. The battle here was a swirling cavalry melee with a unit of Parliament dragoons menacing the Royalist flank. As the tide turned in favor of Parliament, the infantry of the Royalist center moved to support their left. A unit of raw foot routed, created confusion among the rest of the Royalist infantry. Parliament's Cuirassiers, moving from their position in reserve, seized the moment with an crushing flank charge on the Royalist's last organized foot regiment, drove them back, and then cut them down among the Royalist artillery park, effectively ending the battle. The fight in the center featured an artillery duel and ended at push of pike, Essex's elite foot regiment driving into the Royalist center. The King's Lifeguard was moving in to shore up the line, but the contest was decided on the opposite flank before they managed to close with Essex's men. The fight on Parliament's left flank was less decisive. The Royalist cavalry swept most of their Parliament counterparts from the field, but bogged down facing infantry reserves moved from Parliament's center. Enjoy the pictures.
